GNASSM declare war against traditional authorities involved in illegal mining (Video)

The leadership of Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners have declared war against some traditional authorities who are involved in illegal mining activities in the country destroying water bodies and Forest reserves.

As part of their efforts, the leadership of the association led the team of taskforce in collaboration with the Atwima Nponua district assembly to embark on two days of operations along the river bank of river Offin to arrest some individuals mining in unapproved areas.

Speaking to Newsmen after the exercise, the vice president of the Association, Mr Sampson Kofi Wiredu said that, the leadership of the association are ever ready waiting for the support from the ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to help them embark on a national campaign against illegal activities along the river banks and forest reserves.

He said the team will expose and report any traditional leader who will be found in connection with illegal activities in his community.

The national commander of the taskforce formed by the association, Mr Don Chebe said that, they have been able to destroy over 300 Chanfan machines using by illegal miners during their two days operations at Kotokuom and Amadaa communities.

The district chief executive for Atwima Nponua district, Hon Isaac Kofi Marfo also declared his commitment to support the association to flash out all those operating illegal mining activities on the river banks and forest reserves in the district.
