Fire wreaks havoc at Dadiesoaba Nursing & Midwifery Training College

Academic activities at Dadiesoaba Nursing and Midwifery Training School in the Asutifi South District of the Ahafo Region have come to standstill after fire razed down the school’s girls dormitory.

Though the causes of the fire is yet to be known, speaking to some of the students via telephone on Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma Monday, September 5, it came to light that “the fire started from the girl’s dormitory at about 3:00pm on Sunday, September 4″.

“Fire service personnel responded to the emergency late because the time they arrived, the fire had already been doused, so they came to gather the debris,” some of the students complained.

They said they had to sleep in classrooms at the mercy of the harsh weather until Monday morning.

But for the timely intervention of tutors and residents of the area, the fire would have spread to nearby structures on campus, the students said.

In a video chanced on by Akoma FM, affected students are seen running helter-skelter from the blazing inferno.

Some of the students explained that at the time the fire gutted the dormitory, most of them were at the washroom so the only clothes they had was a piece of cloth wrapped around them.

District Chief Executive (DCE) Robert Dwomoh Mensah, who joined the conversation, explained that the situation has forced the Assembly to call for emergency stakeholders meeting to ascertain possible solutions to contain the students’ plights.
