Exhibit knowledge and skills acquired in the world of works – Prof. Abednego Amartey
The Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Prof. Abednego F. O. Amartey has advised graduands to apply all the knowledge and skills acquired at the University to overcome the challenges in the World of Works (WoWs).
“You have developed certain qualities such as initiative, critical thinking, rigour, discipline which predicts the capacity to overcome obstacles that may emerge during your life journey after graduation,” he said.
He advised graduands to demonstrate creativity, innovation since the world is changing rapidly and explained however that change cannot be stopped but can only be managed hence they must manage the change that comes along in life and also move into the future with zeal and change the world for the better.
Prof. Abednego gave the advice at the first session of the 14th congregation ceremony for the school of graduate studies in Accra.
The University will be graduating Four Thousand Fifteen (4,015) students at all four sessions of the ceremony and comprises of Eight Hundred and Twenty-Six (826) postgraduate, Two Thousand Three Hundred and Forty-Nine (2,349) undergraduates, and Eight Hundred and Forty (840) diploma students.
School of graduate Studies graduated Eight Hundred and Twenty-Six (826) students for the first session and includes Twenty Six (26) Master of Philosophy students, Six Hundred and Two (602) Master of Business Administration students, One Hundred and Twenty-Nine (129) Master of Arts students, and Sixty Nine (69) Master of Science students.
On newly introduced academic programmes, the Vice Chancellor said the University have received accreditation for the introduction of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy in Accounting programmes, Master of Business Administration in Corporate Communications in the 2022/2023 academic year.
Approval was also given in 2021/2022 to grant for the mounting of Post Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Oganisational Development purposely developed in response to the demands of the cooperation between management of the University and Anglogold Ashanti.
According to him, other programmes are at various stages of approval at Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and includes Doctor of Philosophy in International Security and Intelligence and Interdiscipline studies programmes, Master of Arts in Digital and Strategic Marketing Management, Arts in Media and Digital Communication Management, Philosophy in Media and Digital Communication Management and Bachelor of Science in Logistics and Transport Management.
Throwing more light on enterprise development, he said the University have set up an Enterprise and Innovative Centre to find solutions to the rising increase of graduate unemployment, saying 13 start-ups brought together ideas and concepts to receive funds to run businesses this year.
For his part the Inspect General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare an alumni of the University urged graduands to remain focused and make the right choices in life and leave a legacy and footprints for others to follow in every socio-economic endeavour adding that self-discipline be demonstrated in all fields of endeavour.
