Unless they kill us, we won’t accept GHC300 as compensation from Newmont to demolish our houses – Tano North farmers
Farmers in the Tano North in the Bono Region have stressed they are not going to sit down for the mining company Newmont Ghana to raise down their houses.
The Mining company is claiming ownership of the land which the farmers have built their houses on.
The farmers say, the mining company after having some back and forth with them has decided to compensate them with GHC300 and demolish their buildings, a move they reckon to be an insult.
The farmers who insist they rightfully acquired the land suspect their traditional council to be in bed with the mining company.
Some of the farmers speaking on Kessben TV’s Breaking News noted that the issue had been in court and was recently taken out of court by the traditional council and Newmont to settle amicably.
‘After the issue went out of court, Some of the traditional leaders travelled to Accra with the leadership of Newmont for meetings and now they are telling us that they are going to demolish our houses and give us GHC300. Unless they kill us, we are not going anywhere” One farmer said.
The residents of Tano North in the Bono region are predominantly farmers.
