Former Kotoko captain Ismail Abdul Ganiyu makes a U-TURN

The former captain of the Ghanaian champions, Kumasi Asante apparently wrote to the top hierarchy of Kotoko requesting his contract with the club to be terminated.

Few days after his request was put through, the defender has reconsidered his decision to leave after meeting with the club’s management.

Ganiyu was to be part of the Kotoko travelling squad to Sudan for the pre-season training but due to the impending issue, he was left out of the team that travel to Sudan.

The hardworking defender extended his contract by 2 years with Kumasi Asante Kotoko in September 2021.

Upon further deliberation, he has now decided to stay and run out his contract which is left with a year.

Asante Kotoko on Tuesday, 23rd September 2022 named Richard Boadu as the new captain of the team with Yusif Mubarik and Danlad Ibrahim as the 1st and 2nd deputies.

Ganiyu was named the captain of Kotoko last year after long-serving former captain Felix Annan left the club following an 11-year stint with Kotoko.
