It’s wrong to begin sports shows with foreign news – Kwabena Agyapong (Video)
Former sports journalist, Kwabena Agyapong has stated that it is absolutely wrong for the Ghanaian sports media to spend more time on foreign sports content on their various sports programs.
Kwabena Agyapong speaking on Kessben TV bemoaned about the ample time given to foreign sports on the local media at the expense of the local game.
According to the former press secretary of erstwhile president Kuffour, the local sports especially Ghana football is not well patronized by Ghanaians because how the media have dedicated a very limited to it.
Kwabena Agyapong admitted that there is no way the media can do away with foreign sports because of how it has been lucratively structured but the media also has a role to ensure that the local game is promoted well to also get widely patronized.
He revealed that he introduced foreign sports on sports shows in Ghana during his heydays as a sports journalist but that was on the latter part of the show.
“When you go to the UK and others, you won’t hear them talking about the Ghana premier league. They spend a good time talking about theirs but in Ghana what do you see? We spend so much time on foreign news and it is wrong to start the sports shows in Ghana with foreign news. I introduced foreign football on my show years ago but that was at the latter part of the show” He said.
