Otumfuo’s Image on Kotoko Jersey: FIFA frowns on images on Jerseys – Ref Kala throws more light

Over the last few days, the Asante Kotoko 2022-23 home and away jerseys have been a subject matter in Ghana after Kotoko unveiled the Otumfuo embossed jerseys.

Bankroller of King Faisal Football Club, Alhaji Karim Grusah sparked the discussion when he described the designs of the Asante Kotoko jerseys as uncivilised to have put the club owner on their jerseys.

‘It’s uncivilized to have put Otumfuo on the Kotoko Jersey. In fact, it’s a village thing. Otumfuo is more than that. Otumfuo does not go to war and lose. Maybe these Ashantis don’t know how Otumfuo is valued.

Who does not know Otumfuo is the owner of the club? Which team does that in the world? We put sponsors on Jerseys. This is not maturity, they’ve already done it but they can go back and change. Alhaji said on Kessben TV.

Many football fans and journalists have come up with their opinions about whether it is right or wrong.

Retired Ghanaian football referee, Owusu Mensah Kala speaking on Kessben TV with Joe Laka on Midfield Action drew the attention of viewers that there is FIFA law which frowns on football clubs showing images on their jerseys.
