No Bad Blood Between Oti And Volta Regions -Hon Joshua Makubu

The Regional Minister of the Oti Region ,Hon Joshua G Makubu has dispelled any erroneous impression embedded in people’s mind that the Oti region and it’s sister Volta region are at loggerheads with each other. The Regional minister made this statement when he took his turn to tell the story of his region at Minister’s briefing in Accra over the weekend. He emphatically alluded to the fact the two regions are at peace with each other and understand themselves so well . “As far as am aware, there’s no bad blood between us and we are getting on very well. The creation of the new region was as a result of an age long request from the chiefs and people of the northern part of Volta. All successive governments in the country ignored that request but , Nana Akufo Addo saw the need for it and he created this new region through a legislative instrument. This was premised on administrative and political considerations” According to the minister this incident had set the tone for Oti’s accelerated development , progress and growth “Sometime past we were trailing behind in terms of developments and sharing of national cake but now we get our fair share of the cake ,our Assemblies get their common fund like any district in Ghana, new infrastructure like roads, hospitals, schools, RCC administrative blocks , security services, qualified civil service personnel have been sent there to work ,etc. The minister said recently the GES sent 20 buses and laptops of which the greater part of them got to his region . On the Santrokofi, Akpafu , Apesekubi ,Lolobi issue ,he explained that it’s been so far resolved pending the ELectoral Commission to create a new constituency for the people of SAAL to elect their MP and not to be disenfranchised again. The minister explained that the people of Oti are mostly Guans and that of SAAL . As a result , when the new region of Oti was being created, the SAAL people decided on their own to join those in Oti to be in one big family . However, their political lineage was towards Hohoe constituency in the Volta region so they could not cast their votes in 2020 parliamentary elections . So it was not the making of the current government that sought to disable them from exercising their votes. Now there’s an understanding and a new district called The Guan district has been created for them pending the creation of new constituency. The regional minister showed several asphaltic roads, rehabilitated ones, urban roads, feeder roads, new and old ones at various stages of completion. Notable amongst them is the beleaguered Pepase-Dodosu-Jiasikan road that had been in every budget reading since 1992. He also showed a number of new hospitals in all the nine districts, 5 agenda 111 hospitals and a regional one under construction to give good quality health care to his people . There are new class room blocks, for some first cycle, second cycle schools and TVET schools in the region. Plans are also afoot to set up a STEM University in the region. He contested that the region though relatively young is inundated with several development projects and are fast catching up with the old regions. He used the occasion to thank the president and his people for the development peace and cooperation in the region so far.
