The law stipulates that if there’s up to 10% increment in fuel price, we must also increase fares – GPRTU

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) says they are going to increase transportation fares following the recent hikes in petroleum products.

The increment in the transportation fares will mean in less than 40 days, there have been twice an increment in transportation fares in Ghana.

Public relations officer of the GPRTU, Mr Samuel Amoah speaking on Kessben Maakye with Kwame Appiah Kubi stated that they have no other choice than to increase the fares accordingly as there has been an increment in the fuel prices.

“According to our regulations with the Government, if there is an increment in fuel prices which is up to 10%, we have to also increase transportation fares.

With this new price window, we apparently got the information that they were going to increase the prices to up to 10% and truly it has been increased.

We have no other choice than to also increase the fares to avoid making losses. We are currently working on the percentage of the necessary increment of the fares and come out with it soon.

It’s quite unfortunate but we have to. We are not going to contact the road coordinating council or the government over this but we will furnish them with all. Prior to where we are today, we wrote several letters to them with no response. Amoah said.
