Islamic SHS shooting: Probe claim that teachers incited students to demonstrate – Asenso-Boakye asks GES

Bantama Member of Parliament, Francis Asenso-Boakye has asked the leadership of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate allegation that some teachers at the Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi incited the students to demonstrate, leading to the violent confrontation with the Police on Monday June 13.

He said if this allegation is proven to be true, then it is condemnable and should not be repeated.

He also implored the Inspector General of Police to do a thorough investigation on the alleged police brutality of the students of Islamic senior high school during Monday’s protest.

This according to him, will bring finality to the matter..

The Works and Housing Minister was speaking after cisiting the Sxhool on Thirsday June 16.

He said “The other side that I think we can also look at , right from the day up till now, there is an allegation that the students were incited by one or two members of management and teaching staff to do that.

“You shouldn’t countenance that, you shouldn’t encourage that , we shouldn’t take advantage of the developing challenges that we have facing in the country to create confusion in the country. That is not acceptable. It is upon that note that I want to urge the Ghana Education Service to conduct the full scale investigations into this allegation so that it will guide future occurrence in any school kids will be incited to go on demonstration.”

Meanwhile, the Police have announced that the Deputy Regional Commander in the Ashanti Region, DCOP Kwesi Akomea Apraku has been removed following the shooting incident.
