We caused the postponement of the Ashgold Kotoko game – Obuasi Police commander

The Obuasi Police commander DSP Martin Asenso has disclosed that the decision to postpone the Ashantigold vs Kotoko premier league game was informed by his outfit.

The Ghana Football Association has been hit with much criticism following the postponement of the game.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko who had already arranged for their away game had to back off their preparation at the last hour.

The Kumasi based football club on Thursday 20th May 2022 released a strong statement expressing their displeasure over the postponement by the GFA.

Kotoko, in the statement, stressed that they are not going to honour any premier league game if the Ashgold game is not played.

Many eyes were expected to be on the Len Clay stadium after the GFA’s decision to demote Ashantigold and Inter Allies to the Division Two League for match-fixing.

According to the police, following the news that Ashgold had been demoted to division 2, tensions rose amongst the fans and the management of Obuasi based.

DSP Asenso speaking on Midfield Action with Joe Laka said the intelligence they picked from the grounds ahead of the game had a threat to the game which they had to quickly relay to the FA for a postponement of the game.

The sanctions by the GFA to Ashgold and Inter Allies are expected to take effect at the end of next season.

Ashgold has however strongly stated that they are going to appeal the decision of the GFA.
