‘Pupils now come & peep to check whether we are there before coming to school’ – School feeding caterers

The caterers for the Government social intervention programme, the National School feeding programme are demanding an increment for the grant they receive from government to prepare food for the school children.

According to the caterers, a grant per child had been pegged at 97 Pesewsas since 2017.

A leader of the caterers in the Eastern Region, Madam Cecilia speaking on Kessben TV (Kessben Maakye) with Kwame Appiah Kubi stressed that ideally, the grant ought to have been raised to Ghc5 per child but due to the current economic hardship they are only pleading with the Government to raise the grant to Ghc3.

Madam Cecilia bemoaned that due to the insufficient amount of the grant, there has not been consistently cooking for the school children.

She revealed that the situation has now affected the student turnout to school, noting that some of the students come around to the kitchen early in the morning to check whether the caterers are preparing to cook before they come to school.
