Ghana Export Trade Grew By 17 % Despite Covid Scare- GEPA BOSS
The Executive Director of Ghana Export Promotion Authority , Dr. Afua Asabea Asare has revealed that Ghana’s primary commodity exports surprisingly grew by a magnificent 17 % , unprecedented in the annals of the country’s exports history. Dr Asabea made this revelation when she engaged the Press at the ministry of information at the ministry of information to announce the hosting of WTPO conference slated for Ghana this week in Accra .
The meeting comes on on the 17th and 18th of May 2022 to deliberate on the way forward to do business in the midst of stiff challenges in the era of current global hiccups. She told the media that Ghana won an award for being the best country in the whole wide world for using ICT to do business.
She enumerated several benefits the country would enjoy for hosting the two- day conference that will see some other 57 countries on the globe coming into the country. The discussion according to her would center on trade opportunities, experience – sharing, ICT in trade, skills, synergies, capacity building, peer- sharing-ideas, trade promotions and strengthening SMEs to do better in world trade of various countries.
She said Ghana being the commercial nerve center of African trade via AfCTA is suitable for this important conference that can maximise the chances of Trade Promotion Organization opportunities on the continent and the world at large. She also told the Press that TPOs are very instrumental in the growth and development of many countries and African must leverage on these business enablers to grow up as expected .
Dr. Asabea Asare assured the attendees of the immense opportunities and vast experience Ghana has accumulated over the years in exports field and how the conference would benefit from it .
She indicated that in spite of the global economic crises in terms of conflict, climate change and Covid pandemic, countries must work hard to survive the threats that can be turned around. In her contribution, Madam Pamela Coke Hamilton, the Executive Director of International Trade Organization in charge of ICT expressed the importance of such meetings and how beneficial it would be to SMEs and entrepreneurs on the continent and the world at large .
She postulated that in countries where Trade Promotion Organization is vibrant and operational, SMEs can increase their exports three times and the country’s GDP in terms of exports can double. She expressed her delight in participating in the conference as in sharing ideas, building capacity, encouraging and exploring new opportunities and areas that will properly strength local industries so as to succeed in growing the local economies.
