Establish Collective Responsibility In Sanitizing the Media Space – NMC Chairman

Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC) Mr. Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo has reacted to Ghana been ranked 60th in the world from an initial 30th position in the world press freedom index.

Speaking at the world press freedom day 2022 at the international press centre Accra, he stated that, “we are now becoming conscious that the media is crucial for national development.

According to him, whatever is done in the management of the media is of Paramount interest to everyone. Mr. Ayeboafo stated that, “we need to establish collective responsibility in maintaining the media space.

He added that, the bottom line of the media is in article 41 of Ghana’s constitution which ‘urges the duties on the individual Ghanaian citizens and states that the exercise of rights and freedoms, guaranteed in the Constitution, are inseparable from the citizen’s performance of their duties. Article 41 encompasses civil, political, economic, social, and cultural practices Ghanaians engage in. Every journalist has the right to free speech but when it affects the sensitivity of other people, one must pay a compensation because our right is no more important than the right of other people. He said.
