PURC Launches Media Fellowship To Forge Closer Ties With The Inky Fraternity

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has launched the maiden edition of its media fellowship with the call on journalists to forge closer ties with the Commission in the discharge of its operations as well as its stakeholders.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Chairman of PURC, Mr. Ebo Quagraine said the gesture forms part of the drive to enhance the existing relationship between the Commission and the media.

He said the move will further create linkages with the media in capacity building and training to inform the media to be abreast with the emerging trends in the utility space as well as information flow on issues relating to utility services to the citizenry and stakeholders.
According to him, the initiative will also help the media to report accurately on the Commissions works on issues in line with regulatory operations and utility tariffs among others.
“Our doors continue to remain open for clarifications, crosschecks on issues as feedback is given to all parties in the utility value chain”, adding that it will also create a platform to debunk or refute misinformation regarding the regulated sectors of the Commission.
Throwing more light on the operations of the Commission, the Chairman of PURC said management have put in place pragmatic measures to check performance and monitoring, benchmark values, releasing rates on utility services among others and will help also create synergies among utility service providers and its respective consumers.
For his part, the Executive Secretary of PURC, Dr. Ishmael Ackah urged media practitioners to partner the Commission in its day to day activities and explained that the collaboration will help journalists to adequately educate and inform the public on issues of utility services.
The Executive Secretary appealed to the media to continue to engage the Commission on issues relating to utility services and thus assured that the needed information will be given out for accurate reportage.
