Unbearable stench from overflowing septic tank inconveniencing residents at Baaley in Weija-Gbawe municipality
A resident at Baaley in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, Mr Alfred Bruce is fuming with rage over a pungent smell emanating from a septic tank next to his window, which is full and overflowing for the past three months.
He told this reporter that he had asked the landlord of the house one Nana Agyei Donkor, an Internal Auditor who works at Agoo.com, a parcel delivery company, to remove the toilet but to no avail.
This reporter gathered that the landlord had already collected GHC100 each from five tenants living in his house to empty the septic tank but has failed to do so and have been giving excuses.
The tenants who want to remain anonymous for fear of eviction told this reporter that the landlord collect GHc100 from each tenant every year to evacuate the feacal materials but failed to use the money for the intended purpose.
They said the stench from the septic tank is unbearable and affecting their health.
Mr Bruce said he is ready to report the matter to the Sanitation Unit of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and possibly head to the court to ensure the law is enforced to the letter.
Effort made by this reporter to talk to the landlord has been unsuccessful.
