We Are Not Going To Rest Until Road Accident Cases Reduce Drastically In The Country – Board Chairman
The Board Chairman of the National Road and Safety Authority, Mr Jermaine Nkrumah, during the official launch of road safety programme for Easter festivities at the Neoplan station -Accra has expressed his excitement on the lesser cases recorded this year in the first quarter. According to him, the country has recorded less reported cases on road accidents compared to the previous year, which to him, both the road safety advocates and NRSA along with MTTD are doing their best to curb road accidents in the country and has therefore eulogized them for the good work done. In explaining his point, Mr Jermaine stated that, according to statistics comparing last year’s cases to this year, Ghana recorded about 3,9032 cases which 4,022 were injuries and 734 death cases were recorded in the first quarter in 2022, which is lower by 1.7%,4.7% and 4.8% lower than the cases recorded last year. which according to him, road crashes are gradually reducing in the country, however the is more room for improvement to reduce the numbers drastically. He has therefore called on all to support NRSA and road safety advocates in achieving the results.
Director for NRSA, IGN. David Adonteng during the ceremony also urge drivers not to over speed in order to make more sales during the festivities which can threaten the lives of passengers but rather practice good road safety and also heed to the laws of NRSA. He further mentioned that, people lose their lives as a result of road accidents. Speaking at the ceremonial grounds, Ign. David Adonteng says the code for NRSA (194) is currently active and all individual or as a concerned citizen it is their duty to report indiscipline of drivers on our roads. According to him, this code will help reduce road crashes in the country and will help save more lives.
Meanwhile, GPRTU, GCTRU, MTTD has agreed to form an alliance with NRSA and transport ministry to ensure that indiscipline of drivers is out of our roads.
