AN ACCRA Circuit Court, presided over by Afia Owusuaa Appiah, has sentenced two men to 15 years for robbery.

The convicts – Abdul Rashid lssah, aged 18 years; and Abubakari Iddrisu, 24, were slapped with the sentence after the court found them guilty of robbery.

Chief Inspector William Kwabena Boateng, prosecuting, said the convicts live at Tunga and Zamrama Line respectively, while the complainant is Nicholas Aglobi, a taxi driver.

He said, on April 25, 2019, at about 2.30am, the complainant was driving his Daewoo Matiz taxi cab with registration number GC 1255-13 around Dansoman Exhibition Roundabout, when Issah and Iddrisu hired his services to Tunga, a suburb of Dansoman.

“When the complainant took them, on reaching the area, Iddrisu, who was sitting at the back seat, pulled a knife from his trousers and pointed it at Nicholas. The accused then ordered the victim to hand over all his money and phones or risk being stabbed to death.

He said Issah, who was sitting at the front seat, quickly took complainant’s Samsung Galaxy S mobile phone, valued at about GH¢200, a Vodafone mobile phone valued at about GH¢100, a power bank valued at GH¢50, and about GH¢30 cash, all totaling GH¢380 and took to their heels.

The prosecutor said, before leaving, the accused persons took the car ignition key from the complainant and threw same into the darkness.

He said, with the help of a witness in the case, Issah was first arrested the following day, and when a search was conducted on him, complainant’s Samsung Galaxy S mobile phone was found in his pocket.

“He was brought to the station for investigation, where he was re-arrested at the charge office. When a search was conducted on him, an amount of GH¢8.00 was found on him, being part of the money they robbed the complainant of.

“He admitted the offences and mentioned Iddrisu as his accomplice. He led the police to the house of Iddrisu where he was also arrested.

“Complainant’s Vodafone phone, power bank and cash of GH¢20 was retrieved from him; after investigations, they were taken to court,” the prosecutor said.
