“Stadium turns planting for food” abandoned Nkawkaw Sports Stadium now being used for maize farming

In the Eastern Region, work on the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium has delayed to the point where some residents have even started to plant corn on the field.

In September 2020, sod was cut for the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium project after which construction began but nothing much has been done after close to 3 years.

The first and second phases of the project, which are expected to cost GH27 million each, have been abandoned, nevertheless.

Kofi Debrah, a representative of the National Sports Authority (NSA), confirmed the use of the field as a maize plantation in an interview with Atinka FM.

It’s thought that once the field was left unattended, the security/caretaker guarding the building chose to plant maize there.
