I want to leave Ghana because of E-levy – Phaize

Ghanaian rapper Phaize has taken a harsh position against the latest e-levy bill. According to the artiste, he plans to leave the country because times are hard. And the addition of more taxes worsens the load on himself and Ghanaians.

Phaize made this submission on HtzFM. When the host asked his opinion about the infamous e-levy, Phaize revealed that he hoped to leave the country because things are tough in Ghana.

“It’s a big deal for Ghanaians. The average Ghanaian. And so it’s one of the reasons I want to leave Ghana.”

The host iterated, “Because of e-levy?” And Phaize asserted, “Oh, yeah, sure. It’s one of the few reasons.”

Phaize seemed quite prepared to go through with his plan as he came to the studio with a carrier bag containing his personal effects. The local jute bag, popularly called Ghana-must-go, contained a towel, hairbrush, sponge and others. “Everything is inside. I am leaving Ghana. I am tired. I want the UK, US or Canada,” Phaize disclosed.

The contentious e-levy passed into bill saw much resistance from Ghanaians. Many objected to the numerous tax responsibilities of the citizenry. But despite all the concerns raised, the dreaded e-levy is speculated to be applicable from May 2022.
