Free SHS Review: Give rice supply contract to local rice producers – Dr. Adu Kofi to Government (Video)

Senior lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Dr Kofi Adu has suggested to Government to give the contract of supplying rice for the free SHS programme to local rice producers in Ghana.

Following the economic challenges, the Government has hinted it will review some of its flagship programmes to unburden the financial pressure on the economy.

The free SHS without slightest shake of doubt is one of the popular programmes of the NPP Government. Much money is needed to sustain the policy as it reportedly cost 2 billion Ghana cedis to sustain the programme annually.

Students under the free SHS are not only paying school fees but are also fed twice a day.

For the policy to be sustained, the senior lecturer reckons, the government must buy from the local rice producers in Ghana to prepare the meals of the students.

He stressed that it will encourage the local rice producers to do more by producing in large quantities and with good quality and also unburden the financial pressure on Government.
