SDA donates assorted items to Labone Girls Vocational Centre

As part of the global youth day celebration,theNew Life Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA)Youth and Children Ministry at the weekend donated assorted items to the Junior Girls Correctional School of the Labone Girls Vocational Training Centre in Accra.

The occasion is to mark the Global Youth Day celebration.The items included bags of rice, cooking oil, toiletries, books, tissues, detergents, sanitary towels and clothing.

The youth leader for the New Life SDA Church- Circle, Emmanuel Boateng,  said the donations was not going to be a one-time offer but a continuous activity that would impact on all individuals.

“As part of our community outreach project this donations would continue to help put smiles on the children’s faces, the team is also making arrangements to adopt the shelter of abuse that kept all missing and abused children in the society”.

He explained thatthe shelter house was part of the institutions managed by the social welfare but the youth team had plansof providing structural support, maintenance, facilities and other equipment to keep the place in good shape for the comfort of the children.

Mr Boateng added that the team would continuously visit the children and engage them into several activities in order for them to feel more loved and not neglected.

Receiving the items, the Director Department of Social Welfare, Reverend Dr Comfort Asare, expressed gratitude to the New Life SDA team for their kind thoughts lifting a great part of their burden.

“We are indeed grateful for showing so much love to these children, the theme and the donations was timely with the current situation we are facing, we are, therefore, encouraging other organisations and individuals to always come to our aid,” she said.

Mrs Asare also disclosed that the department had started a training programme for foster parents to help care for neglected children.

“Since we want the work to be simple and easier for everyone, we have been able to train about 1,009 foster parents while giving them about 247 children to take care of.”

She further advised parents to always be together in everything and not maltreat their children, rather they should take good care of them.
