Mahama: Power outages are part of upgrade, not return to “Dumsor”

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that recent power outages being experienced in parts of the country are part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades aimed at strengthening and stabilising the national electricity grid, and not a return to the prolonged “dumsor” era.
Speaking on the developments, during the inspection of the new transformers at NEDCo Yard in Tamale President Mahama appealed to the public for patience, explaining that the temporary disruptions are necessary to enable engineers replace and install new transformers across the country.
“The outages you are facing are not dumsor. It is to enable us get better quality and stable power,” President Mahama said.
He noted that in most cases, communities are informed ahead of scheduled maintenance works to ensure residents are aware of planned outages and can prepare accordingly.
“Anytime they are going to replace transformers, they inform the people in the area so that they are aware that their lights are going to be put off for a while until the transformers are installed,” he explained.
The President also highlighted the growing role of local industry in the power sector, revealing that a significant number of the transformers being deployed are now manufactured in Ghana.
“One of the things I’m happy about is that a lot of these transformers are produced locally in Ghana. They are made-in-Ghana transformers,” he said.
He described the development as an important step toward strengthening the local economy while improving energy infrastructure.
