She disclosed her commitment to the new initiative during a courtesy call by a team from the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) led by the Chief Executive Officer, Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib and the Deputy CEO in charge of Mobilization and Private Partnership, Mr. Emmanuel Affram Anim . This courtesy call is part of the Authority’s agenda in ensuring that its public-private partnership is strengthened and positioned in achieving its development goals.
According to her, Norway is one of the countries with very clean and beautiful beaches in the world and this was achieved through education. She further affirmed their support to the Authority in ensuring that the coastal communities are free of filth in order to minimize marine pollution and boost tourism.
The CEO of CODA, Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib elucidated that in order to sustain the clean beach campaign, the Authority intends to revive coastal communities through creative activities, including building beach soccer stadia along the four coastal communities in Volta, Greater Accra, Central and the Western regions of Ghana.
Lawyer Shaib expressed appreciation in respect of the Ambassador’s promise in ensuring that investors from Norway are made aware of the Authority’s high impact projects and explore possible areas of cooperation, especially on the CODA Sea Bus initiative. The CODA Sea Bus will help in reducing the transportation challenges within the coastal zone. Mr. Kyrre Holm, the Deputy head of Mission noted that it was important for developing countries to strengthen capacity in oceans governance and law of the sea for a sustainable oceans economy.
In addition to the several projects being implemented by CODA under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) in the one hundred and nine (109) constituencies within the coastal zone, the Authority is seeking to establish public-private partnership under the Clean Beach Campaign to augment its ongoing efforts.
