Gov’t must build more computer labs – Experts
Computer scientists have asked the government to commit to building more computer laboratory centers in Ghana to promote the much touted Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Education in Ghana.
On the average, it costs between $140,000 to $200,000 to complete one lab center.
The first computer lab which started in Yamoransa called the Yamoransa Model has so far been replicated in 10 other regions with plans to extend the projects to the remaining six new regions.
The project brings together children in communities under one umbrella and equip them with tools to have first -hand experience in robotics.
The Executive Director of Helping Africa Foundation, Japhet Aryiku at the Annual Robotics Competition 2022 said “What we need from the government is commitment. We are saying this is a project that should be replicated and we cannot do it alone. They must put this in the budget”.
The project strives on promoters who lead the implementers into the communities and one of them is a Former Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare.
She is also the Member of Parliament for Techiman North who through her efforts has secured one computer lab for the people of Techiman North.
So far there are more than 500 computers in the 10 regions with 75,000 children having benefited. Kafui Prebbie, The Implementer of the projects said the target is to reach 150,000 children in three years.
President of the Helping Africa Foundation, Dr. Debora Rose said the implementers will ensure that the project will be sustained.
