Technically his seat is not vacant – Lawyer Ohene Gyan throws more light on Assin North MP’s case

Astute lawyer Ohene Gyan has stated that technically the seat of the Assin North Member of parliament, Gyakye Quayson is not vacant as reported by some Ghanaian tabloids.

The supreme court on Wednesday, 13th April 2022, ruled that the Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson, can no longer perform Parliamentary duties following a petition by Michael Ankomah Nimfah to the court challenging the citizenship of the MP.

According to Ankomah, Mr Quayson owed allegiance to Canada at the time of filing his nomination forms to contest the MP’s position.

Lawyer Ohene Gyan reacting to the verdict told Nyakoh Abronomah on Kessben TV that Mr Quayson will liable for contempt if he calls himself as an MP until the substantive judgement is declared.

He reiterated that his seat can not be declared as vacant because it is a temporal injunction that has currently been placed before the memorandum of the issues is addressed.
