Barcelona threaten legal action over De Jong contract

The Frenkie de Jong saga has taken a new turn as Barcelona are preparing for legal action regarding his contract.

According to the Athletic, Barcelona “want to annul his existing contract and return to the deal he was on before, alleging the terms given to him by the club’s previous board involved criminality and provide grounds for legal action against those involved”.

Remember that Barcelona is in serious financial trouble and is looking to sell De Jong or reduce his salary.

So far, De Jong has shown no signs of budge, which has proven to be a headache for Barcelona.

Despite Manchester United’s interest, Barcelona president said on Sunday that De Jong “wants to stay.”

The Premier League club agreed a £63.5 million deal for the Dutch midfielder, 25, last month, but the transfer is still pending.

De Jong scored after coming on at halftime in Barcelona’s 6-0 friendly win over Pumas UNAM on Sunday.

“He is a great Barcelona player, and we want him to stay,” Laporta said.

“He has offers, but we and he both want him to stay.”
