Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly To Launch Operation Clean Your Frontage on February 1
As part of ensuring the environment is clean free from filth , the Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly embarked on ”operation clean your frontage ” the exercise that will be fully launched on February1, ahead of the launch, the assembly authority used today 26th January 2022 to sensitize traders on the walk ways ahead of the official launch. On the February 1, the assembly will de-congest traders on the walkways which will apply the use of force to evict them from the place.
The launch ”operation clean your frontage” is to ensure Accra is clean following the president’s declaration in 2016 where president Akuffo -Addo says by the end of his, Accra will be the cleanest city in Africa.
Speaking with the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Adjei Tawiah said their assembly in their own is ensuring the vision of the president is fulfilled and also to ensure that Greater Accra is clean. Its sorely the duty of the assembly to make sure that, good sanitation is practiced in our communities and also to make sure that the walkways are also free from traders and hawkers to make the walkways easier for pedestrians.
Traders within the municipal expressed their displeasure with the assembly because according to them, the assembly did not give them a prior notice before asking them to vacate from the walkways. They therefore pleaded with the government to intervene in their situation. Ign. Isaac Lamptey, Municipal work engineer reacting to this said, the assembly last year ordered traders to vacate from the walkways but the traders pleaded with them to give them sometime vacate since it was the Christmas season, and they promised to move out on January 2, however the traders refused to comply after the assembly heeded to their cry. Ign. Lamtey speaking with kessben news reporter Eunice Afoley said the laws have been lenient with traders and citizens but now they are to re-enforce the laws.
He further explained that according to Act 925 in article 121 indicates that ” An authorized officer may without notice, effect or carry out instant prohibition, abatement, alteration, removal or demolition of an unauthorized development if that breach is creating an environmental nuisance with the use of public right of space” The assembly will ensure that any individual who therefore becomes an hindrance or nuisance within the municipality will face the laws of the authorities , he said..
