Reversal of 50% benchmark value will affect customers – CEO time shipping

The Chief Executive Officer of Time shipping service, Mr. Jacob Agyemagn has said that the 50%-30% reversal on benchmark value will burden importers.

According to him, they received short notice from Ghana Customs Divison on December 31, 2021, stating that the reversal on benchmark values and goods will take effect on January 4th.

He stated that, since the outbreak of the pandemic, it has impacted their business negatively which has affected their profit margin on imported goods therefore reversing the benchmark value will affect the customers.

When quizzed on what the Customs Division is doing about the reversal of the benchmark values, He said that Customs are policy implementers and they can only advise the government.

He noted that the affected goods are about 44 items. “Imports of poultry product, fish, rice, sugar, pasta, noodles, spaghetti, refined oils, aluminum products, tissues, chocolate, etc. that clearly show that things will increase. ‘Everyone should be prepared because one will pay more in terms of commodities in the market. He said.
