E-Levy not widening tax net but exploitation – Nana Yaa Jantuah (Video)

The General Secretary for the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah says Government’s move to tax Electronic transactions is to milk the citizenry.
Nana Yaa Jantuah stressed that the E-levy is never about widening the tax net as widely claimed by the New Patriotic Party government to be the rationale behind the introduction of the E-levy.
Speaking on Maakye with Appiah Kubi (Mr. Speaker) on Kessben FM/TV, the general secretary of the CPP said the introduction of the E levy means double taxation for the people.
She said it is against the principles of taxation to place a levy on a mobile money transfer of which the money had already been taxed from the basic.
The parliament of Ghana will reconverge on 18th January to continue the discussion about the E-levy.
The minority in parliament has strongly demonstrated against the approval of the E-levy while the majority caucus remains resolute to ensure that the E-Levy is approved.
