E-Levy Bill Before Parliament; Gov’t Maintains 1.75% Deductions
Government has presented the controversial E-Transaction levy bill to Parliament.
The bill still pegs the percentage of deduction on electronic cash transactions at 1.75 despite expectations that the figure will be slashed marginally.
The Majority and Minority in Parliament had had standoff over the levy and the percentage involved.
However, a Deputy Finance Minister, Abena Osei-Asare on Wednesday disclosed that ongoing consultations will influence the content of the final tax instrument that will be laid in Parliament.
“I believe that we will bring the bill in and hopefully, all things being equal, it will be laid in Parliament, and all of us will see everything stated clearly in the electronic transaction levy.”
“You can never finish consultations, so I cannot say consultations are over, but we have made very good progress in the consultation process and I believe that it will reflect in the bill that will be presented to Parliament,” she told journalists in Parliament.
