Border closure: Marriages have collapsed, many have died through hardship – Jomoro MP reveals
The member of parliament for Jomoro Constituency, Hon. Dorcas Affo Toffey has disclosed many have died following the closure of the nation’s border due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
According to the member of parliament, the economical implication of closing the borders of the country has affected most of the border towns especially in her constituency, Jomoro.
Its been over one year since the president of Ghana, Akufo-Addo closed all borders of the country and on Wednesday, 15th December 2021, when he addressed the nation about the measures taken to fight against the spread of COVID-19, it was expected the president was going to announce the opening of the borders after one year but had a different plan.
The president in his address said the borders will remain closed despite acquiring more vaccines which are expected to get the 20 million people vaccinated in Ghana by the end of the year.
The member of parliament for Jomoro, speaking in an interview with Kessben TV appealed to the president to consider the plight of people who live and trade around border towns.
She said many have died as a result of the closure of the borders affecting their livelihood.
She indicated marriages have also been affected adversely as breadwinners have all lost their trades.
