National Premix Fuel Committee Engages With MMDCEs
The newly Inaugurated National Premix Fuel Committee (NPFC) has held a maiden stakeholder engagement with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives.
The meeting was intended to give the new committee an opportunity to interact with the MMDCEs to understand challenges within the Premix Fuel Value Chain and proffer enduring solutions.
The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson in her addresses warned that she had a zero-tolerance for illegalities such as light fishing, hoarding and its related ills.
“I urge you to join hands with me to eradicate some of the illegal fishing practices that continue to setback government’s effort at making the fishing industry more productive.
As the Sector Minister I acknowledge how important your role is, that is why we have invited you to dialogue so that collectively, we can push the fortunes of the local fishing industry.”
She noted that it took considerable effort on the part of the government to convince the European Union to rescind its decision to sanction Ghana for its culpability in illegal fishing practices which include the menace of light fishing.
She stressed that her ministry was reliant on MMDCEs to foster propriety at the local level to complement the efforts of the central government.
For his part, the Chairman of the of the National Premix Fuel Committee, Mr Dennis Percyval Quaicoe assured that the committee under his leadership will do everything necessary to consolidate the gains made thus far while striving to achieve more.
He stressed the cardinal importance of Landing Beach Committees and noted that the National Premix Fuel Committee Regulations LI 2233 was the main document stipulating the mandate of all structures within the value chain and thus must be followed to the latter.
“I Implore you to endeavour to work together with LBCs to guarantee the judicious utilization of 53% Premix Fuel sale margins meant for community development projects.
You are representatives of government at the grassroots; the onus therefore lies on you to ensure that government business thrives. “He ended.
The Administrator of the National Premix Fuel Secretariat, Nana Abrokwa A. Asare was present and made remarks of his own to corroborate the views expressed by the Sector Minister and the NPFC Chairman.
The National Premix Fuel Committee (NPFC) was established by the government of Ghana in July 2009 to supervise the administration and distribution of Premix Fuel, a hugely subsidized petroleum product.
The National Premix Fuel Secretariat (NPFS) operates under the direct supervision of the National Premix Fuel Committee (NPFC).
Now under the leadership Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has made pervasive impact – particularly on the Premix subsector – where magnificent leadership has curbed the muddle of malfeasance that once characterised Premix Fuel distribution and management.
A noteworthy illustration of the gains made under its current leadership is the eradication of the malignant issue of premix fuel hoarding and shortages that once festered.
