Hungarian Deputy Speaker of Parliament tours Kumasi waste Treatment Center
The deputy speaker of the Parliament of Hungary, István Jakab has toured the Kumasi Waste Water Treatment Plant (KWTP) at Adagya in the Ashanti Region.
The KWTP is a 20-million Euro plant with a capacity of 150 cesspit tanks of trucks and take care of liquid waste in greater Kumasi and its adjoining communities.
The PUERCO and Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) partnered project seeks to eliminate open defecation and indiscriminate dislodgement of faecal matter, and manage liquid waste in Bosomtwe district and Kumasi metro.
Speaking at a brief ceremony held at KWTP Training Room on Monday, November 22, 2021; Hon. Jakab revealed that similar project is being constructed at Takoradi and Tamale.
He said the Hungarian government has several initiatives aimed at assisting and promoting education, agriculture, professionals, among others to forge greater ties. Adding that over 100 Ghanaians have been awarded scholarship to be trained in either a university or research institute to conduce Ghana’s developmental drive.
He said the Hungarian government is laying a foundation to promote effective climate change, and underscored the need to preserve clean and healthy environment.
He eulogized the Chairman of Jospong Group of Companies, Dr. Joseph S. Agyepong on his effort to improve the sanitary condition in Kumasi and pledged a continuous support to deepen the ties between the two countries.
Mr. Jakab has been in Ghana for the past few days to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between Ghana and Hungary, and the 5th anniversary of the reopening of the Hungary embassy.
He mentioned that the Ghana-Hungary relationship have entered an extremely intensive phase, adding, “I think it’s high time I pay official visit to Ghana”.
