GRA 50% Benchmark Value: Cement manufacturers cry over reversal – Rev Dawson Amoah
The Executive Secretary to the Chamber of cement manufacturers, Rev Dawson Amoah has described the implementation of the removal of the benchmark values on some 32 categories of items as a worry.
He explained that the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic has shot up the prices of raw materials because of the increment in freight charges.
According to him, Gunta takes about 75-80% of the raw materials needed in the production of cement hence if there should be a rise it will affect them.
”We pay over $3million a year as fumigation levy to resolve the internal issues yet nothing is done on it, and the reduction of the benchmark levy is now a big headache to us” said Rev Amoah.
Speaking with Omahene Yaw Adu Boakye on ‘Maakye” Rev. Dawson Amoah says the government did not have any conversation with them with regards to the removal of the benchmark.
According to him, they have told authorities to review the benchmark value products produced in the country. ”Cement, biscuits, soaps and other products produced in the country benchmark value should be reviewed and should not be given any discount”
