LA Francophonie signs agreement with Ministry of Education for Mobility Program for teachers

Deputy education minister, Hon John Ntim Fordjour has said that the ministry of education is fully committed to the teaching and learning of French in Ghana to progressively transfer the Ghana space into a francophone environment.

He said that the agreement on the teacher mobility is anchored on the implementation on the linguistic part and stressed on building the capacity on the Ghanaian French teachers.

According to him, Ghana joined LA Francophonie in September 2016 and in the year 2018, the two countries signed a linguistic partnership which commutated the adoption of the action plan in 2019.

During the program, he mentioned that Ghana has a lot to do to catch up to be able to bring French proficiency the society.

“our neighbours and friends from the francophone countries are so fluent in the English language and they also pursue the speaking of English alongside French in their schools. Hon. John Ntim Fordjour stated that the novelty by the Organization of LA Francophonie (OIF) will contribute to the strengthening of the national capacity to meet the needs of the French education system.

He mentioned that 21 experts will be deployed in three institutions where their services will be most needed. He, therefore, urge the beneficiary institution to commit to the necessary corporation to these trainers and teachers.

Head of OIF, Thi Hoang Mai TRAN speaking on the LA Francophonie project in Ghana, said, that, the International Organization of La Francophonie is very pleased to sign an agreement for the launch of the mobility project for teachers in and of French in Ghana.

According to her, French is an international language and Ghana is surrounded by francophone countries.

She stated that the Prez for the republic of Ghana president Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed his will to make the French language the official second language in Ghana so as the speaker of parliament.

Learning French makes it easier to work within the francophone countries especially the neighbouring countries.

She added that Ghana is the second country to sign a memorandum with IOF in this project. According to her, some of the Ghanaians she has met expressing themselves in French are so impressed and they speak perfect French so implementing French in Ghana will be so easy especially when its taught at an early age “childhood”

She said that it’s the duty for Ghanaians to promote the speaking of the French language in Ghana as they will also support Ghanaians.
