Prof Ofori to act as UG Pro-Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Students affairs

The Governing Council of the University of Ghana has appointed Professor Daniel Ofori to act as the Pro Vice-Chancellor in charge of academic and student affairs.

This follows the appointment of Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana.

Prof Aba Appiah Amfo was inducted on Tuesday, October 26.

Speaking during the induction ceremony on Tuesday, October 26, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commended her and assured her of his full support.

“I congratulate the University Council, under the redoubtable leadership of the former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo for this radical decision.

“With the female Chancellor in the person of Mary Chinery-Hesse, males in the academic hierarchy of Legon may well, begin to feel threatened species.  I believe they have no cause to worry, it just happens to be the time of the women, it is okay, they have waited long enough

“Madam Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, ayekoo in God’s blessing, and you will definitely have my support and be hopefully, your successful advocate with the Minister for Finance.”

Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, for her part, promised to institute one student, one-laptop policy to enhance ICT education at the University.

She said that the university would need the support of the government to make this plan achievable.

“A few issues which have consumed the management of UG in recent years are financial liabilities, resulting mainly from judgment debts and botched agreements.”

“I intend to institute one student, one-laptop policy, where we will collaborate with established ICT institutions to provide our students and staff to have their own laptops or handheld devices,” she said.

“Mr. President, in this regard, we will need your support and that of your government to waive taxes for us making these devices affordable for our students and staff.”

“Mr. President, I would like to make an appeal to your government to deliver us from this rogue that hinders our growth and efforts to be truly world-class. I am making a special appeal to you to support us to clear our unfortunate debt, so we can get a clean slate to start on.”
