Govt committed to empowering women, young people-Patricia Appiagyei

Patricia Appiagyei, the current deputy Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti region, has said the government has initiated several policies to empower women and young people.

She said government initiatives has provided money and technical support to youth-led businesses so that they can start, grow and create jobs for others.

The former Kumasi Major said government through women empowerment  has distributed cash grants to beneficiary households, the majority of which are headed by women to reduce extreme poverty by boosting consumption and nutrition as well as fostering access to social services.

She said government would continue to coordinate gender-related issues and collaborate closely with all parties involved to provide vulnerable women and girls around the country with the necessary information, knowledge, skills and hospitable services.

“There is the need to remove or eliminate gender stereotypes and unearth hidden potentials of women through affirmative action, education and capacity building,” she told Accra-based Original TV.

Patricia Appiagyei has called for the enforcement of policies and efforts aimed at empowering women to appreciate their immense contribution to the socio-economic development of the country.
