Komenda Sugar Factory: No reasonable man will start up production without building an infrastructure – Kwaku Boahen
The National Communication Officer of NDC, Mr. Kwaku Boahen has stated that it is only appropriate to first build a factory before planting raw materials.
Following recent statement made by President Nana Akufo Addo in Cape Coast on the now-defunct Komenda sugar factory, where Nana Addo claimed former president John Dramani Mahama wasted $35million to build the Komenda Sugar Factory.
According to President Nana Addo, the decision taken by his predecessor to build the sugar factory before thinking of how to get raw materials is against the principles of construction.
But Mr. Kwaku Boahen speaking on the subject said that the manufacturing of sugar in the country was first initiated by the late president Dr Kwame Nkrumah but has therefore been ignored because the current president Nana Addo is a president without a vision.
He noted that about $400million is wasted to import sugar to the country which has therefore caused the increase of dollar.
According to him, the former president thought of constructing the building before planting raw materials. ” You can’t start planting sugar cane without building,” he said.
He told Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on ‘Maakye” that the NPP government and president Nana Addo do not think about the development and well-being of Ghanaians. Meanwhile the Deputy Communication Director, NPP, Jennifer Ofowiraa Queen stated that the NDC has completely created a mess in the construction of the Komenda sugar factory and it only took the vision of President Nana Addo to make this vision materialize.
She claimed that in 2017, President Nana Addo realized that the factory needed to be well structured and developed therefore an amount worth $35million was given to Pack Agro Tech Limited for the construction and management of the factory.
According to her, a Technical Audit Team visited the factory after they received claims that the NPP government has ignored the completion of the factory.
”The information received by the Technical Audit Team indicated that they did not receive any requirements from India. It only took President Nana Addo to set up a team to work on the project. The NDC, therefore, has no right to blame the NPP for ignoring the project” she said.
