I blame GHAMRO for the plight of Ghanaian musicians – Nana Reagan
In the opinion of Nana Reagan, an entertainment analyst and journalist who happens to be a PR Consultant, everyone shares in the blame of the Ghanaian musician’s plight including the musicians depending on perspective and the area one chooses to tackle.
In an interview on the Music Plus Show hosted by Nana Osei Kesse (Mr. Bonez) on Kessben TV, the entertainment analyst went on to blame GHAMRO (Ghana Music Rights Organization) and subsequently the structures and institutions that ought to advocate and ensure the needs of musicians such as funding, among others are met. Until recently, the creative arts industry was not even factored in during the country’s budgeting.
According to Nana Reagan, every industry player can equally be blamed for the plights of Ghanaian musicians including the musicians themselves.
Nana again stated that GHAMRO has a role to play in the music industry and he is not convinced they are working right. He questioned the criteria GHAMRO uses to distribute royalties.
GHAMRO is lagging in digital media and needs to put systems in place to make the royalty collection and distribution system good. Nana Reagan advocated for change whilst pleading that the royalty system is fixed as early as possible.
He encouraged that they do not play politics with it and to do something for the creative arts industry especially the musicians.
