David Prah appointed deputy director general of TVET Service

David Prah is a consummate Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Specialist, Competence-Based Training (CBT) Expert, and a seasoned academic with a career spanning over two decades

The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed David Prah as deputy director general of the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service.

A letter signed by the secretary to the President Nana Otuo Bediatuo said the appointment is pursuant to Section 70 (1) of the Pre-Tertiary Education Act 2020 (Act 1049) .

He will serve for a period of four years.

Profile 

David Prah is a consummate Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Specialist, Competence-Based Training (CBT) Expert, and a seasoned academic with a career spanning over two decades.

He is currently the Senior Government and Public Relations Officer at the Volta River Authority (VRA) in-charge of liaising with the Government, Ministries, and the Public on the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam Project, and coordinating stakeholder activities towards the construction of the Dam.

Before his current position, he has been at the forefront of delivering on strategic corporate goals and managing the corporate communication efforts of major State institutions including the Ghana National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Employment Agency (YEA), and the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), in the capacity of a corporate Affairs Director since 2017.

TVET Experience 

His Technical and Vocational Training career started at the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) in 2014 as a Quality Assurance Officer.

His roles, among many others, included monitoring and ensuring the compliance of COTVET’s quality criteria for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) providers and Qualifications Awarding Bodies. He also carries out due diligence in TVET providers towards accreditation, coordinates Quality Assurance Materials Development and Training in TVET CBT Programme Design and Development.

As a Competency-Based Trainer, he has lectured in CBT Facilitation Methods and Occupational Standard Generation at the University of Education, Kumasi – COLTEK since 2015.

He has also participated in workshops and facilitated training programmes in and outside Ghana including; Improving work opportunity for Young People in the Commonwealth (improving apprenticeship policy and implementation) – British Council, London, the UK in 2019 and 2020, CBT curriculum development for the Oil and Gas Capacity Building for Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Accra.

Others include; Workshop for BASIC School Teachers on the Preparation of Teaching & Material by IFESH, PTC-Akropong (Facilitator), Workshops on HIVIAIDS education in Basic school and Senior High Schools.

He is also a Community HIV/AIDS Educator and Adult Literacy Instructor in the Akuapem North District in the Eastern Region.

Academic Career

From 2003-2014, he was a lecturer at the Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong, and subsequently the Head of Department. He was instrumental in setting and advancing the academic strategy of the Education Studies Department in line with Faculty and College strategic plans and direction.

Between 2004 to 2006, he was also a part-time lecturer at both the University of Cape-Coast (UCC PCE Campus) and the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) where he lectured in Diploma in Basic Education for their distance education programme.

He was also an Instructional Material / Modules Developer at the University of Cape-Coast in 2005.

He has co-authored and published many course bookS and dissertations including: Child and Adolescent Development and Learning – Course Book for UTTDBE Students in College of Education, sponsored by Teacher Education Division of G.E.S (Co-Author) 2004, Principles and Methods of Teaching in the Basic School for UTTDBE Students in College of Education, sponsored by Teacher Education Division of G.E.S (Co-Author) 2004, Vocational Training for the Visually Impaired Girls in Ghana, B.Ed. Dissertation University of Education, Winneba- 2003.

Across all facets of his academic and professional career, he has Occupied key leadership positions and played roles such as Member/Secretary Training Quality Assurance Committee of COTVET Board (Jan. 2015- June 2017), Member/Secretary – Technical Sub-Committee on the conversion of the Polytechnic into Technical University NCTE/COTVET, August 2015.
