OFFICIAL: Kotoko complete signing of ‘Ahinsan Sadio Mane’ Dickson Afoakwa

Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have announced the signing of Dickson Afoakwa on a free transfer after a successful two-week trial as Kickgh.com reported on Wednesday

The 23-year-old affectionately known as ‘Ahinsan Sadio Mane’ inked a three-year deal with the two-time CAF Champions League title holders in Accra on Wednesday afternoon. Afoakwa, who has been unattached since December 2019, has been training with the Kumasi-based for a possible switch for the past two weeks.

The club’s official statement reads “We have completed the signing of winger Dickson Afoakwa. The offensive player joins as a free agent on a three-year deal” The 23-year-old has been without a club after his contract with South African outfit Stellenbosch FC was terminated by the club after just six months — he made only five appearances during his stay at the PSL club. Afoakwa left the shores of Ghana in 2016 to join Belarusian top-flight league side Dinamo Brest, where he struggled for regular playing time in his debut season.

He was later loaned out to FC Gomel but failed to live up to expectation for his contract with his parent club, Dinamo Brest to be abrogated after a two seasons. In 2018, he moved from Belarus to Slovenia to join NK Triglav Kranj during the summer transfer window in 2018 but lasted for only six months for his contract to be cancelled.

His last club, Stellenbosch FC terminated his contract after six months by mutual consent. Afoakwa becomes Asante Kotoko’s tenth signing in the ongoing transfer window after Clinton Opoku, Richmond Lamptey, Maxwell Agyemang, Samuel Boateng, Isaac Oppong, Richard Boadu, Augustine Agyapong, Sheriff Mohammed and Samuel Appiah. He started his football career at Kumasi-based lower-tier outfit Cornerstones Babies FC.
