Assemblymen reject Akufo-Addo’s nominee for 2nd time despite minister kneeling to beg

The central regional minister Justina Marigold Assan had to beg the Assembly members of the Cape coast metropolitan assembly after the Akufo-Addo appointee was rejected for the first time.

The first round of voting saw the Akufo-Addo nominee, Ernest Arthur securing 34 yes votes from the Assemblymen while 31 of the assembly members voted for no.

The regional minister on Wednesday in an emotional manner after the rejection pleaded with the assembly members to vote for Ernest Arthur.

Hon Justina Assan went on her knees and spoke lengthily to the assembly members just to have their votes to confirm the presidential nominee.

Her plea did touch some assembly members who later voted for the nominee but still could not get the number of votes which is required for confirmation.

After the second round of voting, Ernest Arthur went head by securing 44 yes votes from the assemblymen while 25 still voted no.

Kessben FM’s reporter Kwaku Tawiah reporting on the development said there were some chaotic scenes at the voting centre after the second round of voting.

According to the reports, some officials had wanted to organize third-round voting but some assembly members insisted the laws does not stipulate that.

The president will have to appoint the rejected nominee again for another ballot to be held latest by Tuesday.
