Richard Ahiagbah is running for General Secretary

Richard Ahiagbah’s movements and activities around the New Patriotic Party point to his ambition to contest the General Secretary position. When asked if he would run for the general secretary position, Mr Ahiagbah said, “I have been consulting with party people on how we can break the eight, and what keeps recurring in that conversation is that we need a new leadership, fresh perspectives to regenerate the passions and confidence of the grassroots, to break the eight.”

This is the politically correct, the usual way of saying; I would be running for the general secretary position without actually saying it. Below is a report from an interview Mr Ahiagbah gave in the Upper East, which further confirms that he would run for the general secretary of the NPP.

At the Upper East Regional Delegates Conference, on October 3rd, Richard Ahiagbah said the New Patriotic Party is at an electoral crossroads. We were here in 2008. So, the grand push to break the 8 started way back in 2008. Now, we must go all the way. Whether or not we break the eight depends on us, not the NDC. But we must make the right decisions from here on.

Our success in this second push to break the 8 requires a revival of values, be more inclusive, and build on the strength of our people, the grassroots, which is the heart and soul of the NPP.

The inclusion and reliance on our people motivated and sustained our forefathers in the dark days of the 1st Republic and much of this Fourth Republic.

We must reconnect with the party, the grassroots, and that reconnection cannot be mere rhetorics; it has to be experiential and real to spark the heart and soul of the party.

When the passion and drive of this New Patriotic Party are sparked, there is nothing that can stand in our way in 2024. With a rejuvenated grassroots, we shall break the eight. But, we must work to elect new leadership to win and reengage the confidence of the grassroots.
