Kotoko can’t be like ‘WAFA’, they don’t play for trophies – Kotoko legend

Former Asante Kotoko and Black Stars Goalkeeper, Anthony Osei Kwadwo has added his voice to the ongoing discussion about Kotoko recruiting young players. He is of the view that it is very wrong for a big football Club like Asante Kotoko to build a ‘WAFA’ (West African Football Academy) like team.

The legendary ex-goalie of the porcupine warriors disagrees with the playing module of the new Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Nartey Ogum. According to Anthony Osei Kwadwo, Asante Kotoko needs established players to compete well in Africa and dominate in the domestic completions.

“Kotoko cannot be like WAFA. Kotoko ain’t WAFA, what have been the positions of WAFA in the Ghana league in recent years? We all need the team to do well, Kotoko needs established and already made materials with experience. I don’t agree with them when they say they want to build a WAFA-like team. They should think about this very well.”

The former Black Stars goalkeeper also called for unity among the management and BoD of the club to work for a common goal.

Ahead of the 2021-22 season, the Kumasi-based football club has signed eight players so far with six of them being teenagers.

The club has let go a total of 14 players including some notable and experienced players ahead of the new season.
