‘I’m very much interested and curious to understand the Kotoko project’ – Fred Acheampong

Kessben FM’s senior sports analyst, Frederick Acheampong has sought clarity from the management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko following the club’s recent signings of young footballers.

Ahead of the 2020-21 Ghana premier league season, the Kumasi-based football club have signed eight players with six of them being teenagers from lower division clubs. The avalanche youth singings have generated a whole lot of talking points amongst football fans especially the Asante Kotoko fans.

Many of the fans cannot phantom why their darling club is signing youth players while the club does not currently have a youth team as a feeder side for the first.

Frederick Acheampong speaking on the flagship Midfield Action Sports program on Tuesday said, what Asante Kotoko has been doing is not too different from what the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United have been doing with regards to the signing of teenagers but would want much clarity on Kotoko’s own.

“I’m very interested and curious to understand what the project is all about. What they are doing is something which Arsenal, Manchester United all do. They sign youth players and announce them on their Twitter pages but these players are not first-team players usually.”

”Yes, sometimes you can find a 17-year-old who can play in the first team, but apart from that, you need experienced players as well,” Fred said.
