No free hands to operate at Black Stars & Kotoko – Coach Ernest Appau
Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko under-17 coach, Ernest Appau has stated that if local coaches are given the free hands to operate when they’re appointed as national team coaches, they will perform better.
Coach Ernest Appau says the influence from the top has been a major factor for the underperformance of local coaches at national teams in recent years.
Speaking on Extra Time sports show on Kessben 92.9, 93.3 FM/TV, the former Kotoko coach underscored the fact that local coaches have the technical know-how but are not respected.
He urged football administrators to give the kind of respect and the free hands they offer expatriates coaches to the local coaches as well.
According to Ernest Appau, if the same level of respect and the free hands to work are given to local coaches, the local coaches will be performing better than the foreign coaches.
Reacting to development at Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the former player stressed the need for the new head coach to recruit his own players. Ernest Appau bemoaned that one of the greatest problems with Kotoko is the perpetual changing of head coaches.
He noted most of the coaches come to the club at the wrong time when there’s no proper pre-season done with players. Ernest is excited that the newly appointed head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum is at the club at the right time because he’s got ample time to have a pre-season with the club before the season commences.
