Low road toll charges, a reason for our bad roads – Roads Minister
The Deputy roads Minister, Stephen Pambiin Jalulah has stated that Ghana has one of the lowest road toll rates in the world compared to the global standards rate, this accounts to the poor raods the country is facing.
According to the Pru West member of Parliament, the gap between the road toll charges in Ghana compared to other nations is very wide.
Honourable Stephen Pambiin Jalulah speaking on Maakye Show with Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Kessben TV/FM said the standard road toll charge across the world is $1 but in Ghana, we have road toll charge which is as low as 0.50 pesewas.
The deputy minister of roads noted that the road toll charges only account for 3% of the road funds which is to support road development in the country. Comparing the $1 standard road toll charges which will be equivalent to about GHS6, the minister opined that of Ghana is very low.
It can however not be said that the low road toll charge is a major reason for the underdeveloped roads in the country but Hon. Jalulah reckons with an appreciable charge, our roads can be better off.
The deputy road minister divulged the highest contributor to the road fund is the fuel levy charge on roads which currently stands at 48%. He made all these known during aradio discussion on Kessben 92.9, Kessben 93.3 and Kessben TV.
