Abandoned AMA Multi-Purpose Office Now A Place For illegal Activities
A multi-purpose office complex building for the Okaikoi South Sub-Metro of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has been left to rot since 2009.
The abandoned building has now become a holding for crime: weed-smoking, indiscriminate sex, squatters and other social vices, which is a threat to residents of the constituency.
Some drivers have also turned the area into a parking space where vehicles are inappropriately parked.
The abandoned office complex has also become an arena where refuse is indiscriminately damped which breeds insects that cause filth-related diseases like diarrhoea, cholera.
Meanwhile, the AMA is reported to have been spending on rent for some of its sub-metro offices, whilst monies invested in rent could have been used to complete the building.
It was planned to be a nine-storey building under ex-President J. A Kufuor’s administration, which ended in January 2009. However, it was constructed up to the second floor.
Between then and now, the building has been abandoned.
A concerned citizen, in a video, reported the case to TV3 detailing some illegal activities that go on in the building. Efforts are yet to be laid out to salvage the situation.
