Daboya Military Training School receives equipment, medical items
The Army Special Operations Training (SOT) School at Daboya in the North Gonja District in the Savannah Region has received laboratory equipment and other medical items to help cater for the health needs of recruits undergoing training at the school.
The items were donated to the school by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
They include a fully automated hematology analyser, a mini chemistry analyser, a centrifuge, a microscope, an auto clave, a time rack and a digital weighing scale with height.
The rest are surgical blades, an ACCU check machine and strips, sharp containers, splints, AMBU and medical cover bags, a pulse oximeter, a stethoscope, a digital sphygmomanometer, a dressing trolley and a thermometer gun.
A delegation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, led by Elder Larry Woodbury, presented the items to the SOT School.
The Latter-Day Saints delegation included Sister Patricia Woodbury and the Director of Communications for the Kumasi Mission, Mr Edmund Osei.
Mr Osei said the donation was aimed at equipping the school with essential medical materials required for the high intensity training exercise for recruits.
He said it was important that recruits received prompt medical attention when needed and described as unfortunate the fact that recruits sometimes had to travel all the way to Tamale to access basic health services such as laboratory tests.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) the Northern Command, Brigadier-General Moses Mohammed Aryee, expressed appreciation to the church for the kind gesture.
He said the equipment and items would assist the school to deliver essential laboratory services to recruits and members of nearby communities to help boost civilian-military cooperation (CIMIC) in the area.
Brig.-Gen. Aryee appealed for further support from individuals and corporate institutions to help improve standards in the school.
The Commanding Officer (CO) of the school, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Nii Armah Quaye, also thanked the benefactors for the assistance.
He recounted how challenging it was to send trainees 75 kilometres to Tamale for laboratory tests and said the donation had “come to meet a real need of the school” and promised to put the items to maximum use.
Also present at the ceremony were the Command Operations Officer for the Northern Command, Colonel Michael Opoku, and the Chief of Daboya, Chief Munyawura Abdulai Yakubu.
The school is one of the training bases of the Ghana Armed Forces for the training of recruits and for special exercises.
It served as a training centre when Ghana hosted a team from the US Army in a joint exercise.More than 300 Marines and sailors of the First Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, and 150 members of the Ghana Army underwent a two-week training during the programme, dubbed: ‘Excersise Shared Accord 08’.
